    Description

    Rare Artist Proof 1982 San Francisco Opera Medal, "Un Ballo In Maschera",  Marika Somogy, Sc.  This medal is signed on the blank reverse, "Samogyi, A.P. 1 (Artist Proof, Number 1)."  I cannot find this medal listed among the medals and commissions on her website, although there is a different medal for the San Francisco Opera listed.  Since the first medal chronologically listed is dated 1983, this 1982 medal would have been the first medal that Ms. Somogyi ever attempted, and she was not satisfied with the medal or foundry for some reason, and possibly it was not put into production for those reasons.  It is cast bronze, 112 mm in diameter, and in mint condition, signed and numbered on the back, and stamped "Artworks Foundry" on the edge.
